THORACIC OUTLET SYNDROME
This is a group of disorders that can cause pain in the neck, shoulder and often numbness in the fingers and hand. This is usually caused by the nerves and/or blood vessels being compressed in the space between the collarbone and first rib usually due to restricted mobility in joints or tightness in musculature in the area.
These symptoms can be caused by trauma such as a fall or an car accident. Or it can be due to repetitive use or poor posture.
Thoracic outlet syndrome is commonly treated with Osteopathy and it has been shown to be very effective in relieving the pain by removing tension in the surrounding muscles and mobilising the joints local to the area.
